I'm writing a comment here to also express my frustration with this piece of crap blu-ray player. I mean c'mon, I have to take out my whole GPU just to get this thing to even get remotely close to working. And finally I blame the DRM on these damn discs for choosing CyberLink and requiring this much intervention to even play their discs on PC.

I also blame CyberLink for having yearly iterations of their 4K Blu-Ray player software that is of no help to anyone. In closing, I blame Pioneer for attaching such blatantly outdated software to their drive which does not allow even an average user to be able to view 4k Blu-Rays without professional help. This is hope for other BDR-212UBK owners and possibly all other Pioneer 4K Blu-Ray drive owners who are running into the same issues that I am.

At the moment I am not prepared to wipe my main PC but in the coming days I will be and I will update this post accordingly. Then it should activate by playing your first UHD Blu-Ray and you can then connect your PC to the internet.

But it said if you install Windows 10 Version 2004 fresh and then install PowerDVD 14 without any connection to the internet. I have stumbled upon a message board, can't find it now. So for those looking for quick answer to playing 4K Ultra Blu-Rays, paying the $70 for PowerDVD 20 might be your best option. It came up with a remote activation error which I can only assume is an error involving that it was a torrented copy. This was not as easy as I had imagined, my PC seems to disable the integrated graphics when a GPU is inserted, so I had to physically remove the GPU for the first time since it was seated in 2017 and then try PowerDVD 20. So then I figured out that to play the disc, I must be plugged into the intel integrated graphics.

But sadly that led to a GPU error, with my discreet graphics card (a Nvidia GTX 1070Ti) was not compatible with the program and my UHD Blu-Ray could not play. But I wasn't going to shell out nearly $70 on crappy software to potentially run 4K Blu-Rays so I may have torrented a version of it (wanted to make sure it worked before I purchased). So I take a day break and the next day I look up the current version of PowerDVD, PowerDVD 20 which costs $69.99. Meaning the current 2020 verison of Intel SGX installed on PCs is not compatible with PowerDVD 14. But this does not work, nay, you're greeted with an Intel SGX error because PowerDVD 14 has not been updated since 2018. So what would any normal person do when receiving this drive? They'd install it into their Windows 10 PC and then install CyberLink PowerDVD 14 so as to play their 4K Blu-Rays on the 4K TV in which their PC is attached to.

This drive which mind you has a manufacturing date of October 2019 includes CyberLink PowerDVD 14 a software title to play the 4K Ultra Blu-Rays which was originally released in April 2014. Christmas Day, I open up a box from a family member and inside is a Pioneer BDR-212UBK, a quad layer blu-ray burner as well as a 4K Blu-Ray player for the PC.
